Dallas Is Losing Trees—Here’s How We’re Bringing Them Back, Fast

Dallas is in a tree crisis. Over the years, rapid development, severe weather, and invasive species have wiped out huge amounts of tree cover across the city. In fact, the Dallas-Fort Worth area loses hundreds of acres of trees every year—and we’re feeling the effects.

Fewer trees mean hotter neighborhoods, worse air quality, more flooding, and less biodiversity. For a city that already faces extreme heat and unpredictable storms, this loss hits hard—especially in underserved areas with the fewest trees to begin with.

At Plan-T, we’re on a mission to bring trees back to Dallas in a way that’s fast, efficient, and deeply rooted in nature.

Our Solution: Tiny Forests with Big Impact

We plant dense, fast-growing native forests using the Miyawaki Method, a proven approach that creates fully functioning mini-ecosystems in as little as 10 years.

These tiny forests take up small urban spaces—schoolyards, vacant lots, roadside strips—but grow up to 10 times faster than traditional tree planting. In just 2–3 years, they start cooling the area, absorbing carbon, and supporting pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds.

Why Dallas Needs Urban Reforestation Now

  • Lower Temperatures – More trees mean cooler streets, especially in heat-prone neighborhoods.
  • Cleaner Air – Trees filter out pollutants and help fight asthma and other health issues.
  • Flood Prevention – Roots absorb rainwater and reduce flash flooding.
  • Wildlife Habitat – Native species return, bringing life and balance back to our city.

Our Vision for DFW

Plan-T is preparing to plant many tiny forests throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area—starting soon. We’re identifying sites, building partnerships, and rallying community support to launch our first forest projects.

Each forest will be a community-powered effort. We’ll work hand-in-hand with schools, nonprofits, local leaders, and volunteers to transform unused land into vibrant, green spaces that serve people, wildlife, and the planet.
